About Katrina Kaif

Born in Hong Kong to a Kashmiri father (Mohammad Kaif) and an English mother (Susanna Torque), she has seven more siblings. Named Katrina Turquotte by her parents, she has lived in various countries till she finally moved to London in 1998. She lived there for three years before she made her Hindi film debut in 2001 at the age of 17 after being spotted by Kaizad Gustaad.

In India, she was named Katrina Kaif by Ayesha Shroff to give an Indian feel to her name. Most Indian filmmakers were not too keen to cast her in movies because she had a heavy English accent which, they were sure, would not go well with the Indian audience.

With Salman Khan as her mentor and guide, she overcame her first flop and slowly crept her way through Indian movie buffs’ hearts with movies like Sarkar 1, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and Namaste London, largely due to her peaches and cream complexion and flawless skin. Meanwhile, she continued to be photographers’ delight and bag one lucrative modeling assignment after another after she was noticed in Telugu and Malyalam movies.

No wonder then that she was voted the “Hottest Woman in the World” for three years in a row (2008, 2009 and 2010) by the Eastern Eye.

Katrina has now given us sizzling item numbers like “My name is Sheela” and “Chikni Chameli” besides TRYING to impress with her acting skills in serious movies like Raajneeti.
